How many credit cards should I have?
In our experience, five credit cards will contribute to your credit repair efforts. More than five is unnecessary and is more likely to depress your scores than help them. By the same token, we notice that the vast majority of benefit is gained from the first two cards as long as they are managed properly.
Two is a Great Start
So, if you are starting a credit repair effort and opening new accounts to shape up your credit scores, two is quite sufficient. But if you are have ample established credit and want to optimize your scores, you should not have more than five credit cards.
Stick With the Basics
And as we always point out, for credit repair purposes store cards are of no value. Stick with the mainstream cards like MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.
