How quickly are collectors required to validate a debt?
There is good news and bad news. The bad news is that collectors do not have a time limit for debt validation. The good news is that most collectors will either respond in a timely manner, or you will see the issue removed from your credit report.
Normal Timing
If a collector is going to validate a debt they will usually do so with 30 days. And if a collector is not going to validate a debt you are most likely to see the debt come off your report, also within 30 days.
Collectors May Ignore You
There are cases where collectors simply ignore debt validation requests. This can be very disturbing, especially if you have a time-sensitive credit repair goal in mind, but you need to take these situations in stride.
We Will Do it For You
If you are a member of our credit repair services we will validate your debt for you and encourage all of our customers to send us active collection letters quickly so we can get the validation letter out within the allowed 30 days. We send all debt validation letters out certified mail.
Benefits of Certified Mail
Sending debt validation letters out certified mail serves two purposes. When a collector gets a certified letter they are somewhat more likely to process the request. Secondly, if they do not respond, at least you have proof that you sent the request. This can come in hand if you want to take legal action.
