I have lots of credit cards, should I close some of them if I want credit repair to work?
You may close your cards selectively. The cards that contribute the most to your credit repair effort are the older cards. If you have more than five credit cards you can start closing by closing the newer cards first, but there are a couple of other considerations.
Consider all Factors
Unless you have good cause to keep your store cards open, like special sales or discounts, you may close them in spite of their age, as they are not contributing to your credit scores.
Two Sides to the Story
Consider the financial benefits. You might opt to favor a newer card in your selection process if it has superior terms. Credit repair is important, but don’t lose sight of the financial side of the equation.
