How long will it take for a secured card to help my credit scores?
This is an important question. Many people starting credit repair programs literally have no open credit cards. And without open positive accounts you will not see significant improvement in your scores. Secured cards are the answer. It does not matter how much of a limit you get as long as you make your payments on time and keep you balances low. But there is some patience involved.
A Necessary Sacrifice
A new credit card can take up to six months to yield the full credit repair benefit. But there is even more that you need to be aware of. Your credit scores will actually fall for the first two or three months after the new account makes its appearance on your credit report. So if you have an important timeframe to stick to, as some people do when planning a home purchase, you need to make sure that there is ample time. If you do not have the six months to build your credit properly there may be some other credit repair strategies you can use in the short term.
Long Term Victory
In the long term, however, there is no substitute for building your own good credit. We encourage our credit repair customers, inasmuch as is possible, to take the longer view. If you open your secured cards now you will be very happy with the results you get, and they will be there to stay.
