A Great Boost
Yes! Authorized user accounts can be a great boost to your credit repair effort. They are not the final long term solution to your credit rebuilding needs, but if you are sincerely trying to turn your credit around and want a little help getting your credit repair project underway, by all means, do it.
Don’t Purchase These Accounts
I should mention that a recent change to the FICO scoring model has blocked purchased authorized user accounts from contributing to your score. But Fair Isaac has clearly stated that the benefit will continue to be passed on from legitimate donors (such as family members and friends), so if you want to use this credit repair technique please don’t buy one of these accounts from a broker.
Easy To Set up
Authorized user accounts are easy to set up. Simply have your donor call their credit card company and ask them to add you as an authorized user. Parents have long used this arrangement with children headed off to college, but it can be set up between any two parties. Once the account reports on your credit report you will inherit the full credit score value of the card and its entire history.
